Welcome to the AFRIKAN Trade Post · Afrika to the World
We are the direct link between Afrika's most extraordinary natural products and buyers worldwide. No middlemen. No markups. Just pure, authentic Afrikan goods — sourced at origin, shipped to you.
Not all shea butter is equal. Uganda's Nilotica variety — Vitellaria paradoxa ssp. Nilotica — is a rare subspecies found only in East Afrika. Softer, creamier, odourless, and extraordinarily effective. The world's premium skincare brands are paying attention.
From the Source
The shea fruit — known locally as yaa — grows on a tree. When ready, the fruits are plucked and eaten. They are very sweet. The seed inside is then dried, cracked, and slowly processed into shea butter by hand.
This is not a factory product. It is labour-intensive, community-sourced, and irreplaceable. Uganda's Nilotica shea comes from the same Northern communities — places like Otuke and Kitgum — that have been harvesting it for generations.
"I am so very proud of myself I must say — finding this, bringing it to the world."
The Science Behind the Premium
Nilotica has a significantly higher oleic acid content than West Afrikan shea. This makes it extraordinarily soft, intensely moisturising, and fast-absorbing — properties that luxury cosmetics formulators will pay a premium for.
West Afrikan shea carries a distinctive smoky, earthy smell that requires deodorising before use in cosmetics. Nilotica is naturally mild and neutral — ideal for clean, fragrance-free products without additional processing.
Nilotica is creamier and softer at room temperature than its West Afrikan counterpart. It melts instantly on contact with skin, absorbs without greasiness, and leaves no residue — making it a prized ingredient for premium body butters and serums.
Nilotica shea accounts for just 1% of global shea exports. Its scarcity, combined with its exceptional properties, means serious cosmetics buyers actively seek it out — and pay accordingly.
China's clean beauty and organic cosmetics industry is actively searching for exotic, effective ingredients. Ugandan Nilotica shea has drawn significant interest at the China Import and Export Fair in Guangzhou.
Premium orders ship via DHL or FedEx for fast, reliable delivery worldwide. For bulk container shipments via Mombasa, allow 3–4 weeks. We recommend airfreight for first orders and samples.
Shea Butter — Retail
Unrefined, unprocessed Nilotica shea butter sourced directly from Northern Uganda. Harvested from wild Vitellaria paradoxa ssp. Nilotica trees and processed by hand in local communities. Unlike West Afrikan shea, Nilotica melts instantly at skin temperature, absorbs without grease, and carries no harsh odour whatsoever.
Shea Butter — Wholesale (10kg & Over)
For cosmetics manufacturers, laboratories, and distributors requiring volume. Wholesale orders start at 10kg. We supply raw Nilotica shea butter directly from Northern Uganda in sealed bulk boxes at consistent quality. Target buyers are premium skincare brands, boutique cosmetic laboratories, and luxury distributors across the UK, US, Canada, Barbados, Spain and China — not mass-market soap makers. If you want quality, this is the product.
Unfiltered, unheated, and untouched. Straight from the wild forests of Uganda to your door.
Honey — Raw & Unfiltered
Harvested from wild hives deep in the forests of Uganda. This honey is never heated, never filtered, and never blended — preserving its full enzyme activity, natural pollen, and extraordinary depth of flavour. Deep amber, intensely floral, and utterly unlike anything found on a supermarket shelf.
Uganda's high-altitude climate produces a bold, distinctive black tea with a clean, bright character unlike anything from Assam or Ceylon.
Tea — Single Origin
Grown in Uganda's high-altitude tea estates, this single-origin black tea has a bold, malty character with a clean, bright finish. Loose leaf, freshly harvested, and packed without blending or artificial flavouring. An exceptional everyday tea and a compelling product for specialist tea importers.
AFRIKAN Trade Post exists to connect the world directly with Uganda's finest natural products. Every item we sell is sourced directly — no brokers, no blending, no compromise on quality.
